Want to volunteer but can’t make a regular weekly commitment? We are currently looking for volunteers to support our client’s at benefit appeal tribunals. You need no experience to do this, the role is simply to provide moral support during the tribunal, help to make sure they understand what is being asked of them

Not all of our roles are client facing and if you have a few hours to spare each week we would love to have you onboard to help our office run smoothly.

If you have experience in fundraising, particularly in identifying and applying for funds and grants then we would love to hear from you.

A few words from our volunteers

St Luke's was a fascinating place to volunteer. I have lived in Brighton for several years as a student and whilst aware of the homelessness and financial hardship experienced by many I didn't really have any idea of the real impact. Helping the organisation to run, and in turn helping the clients, provided the perspective I needed. Not to mention I got to work alongside some lovely volunteers and staff! Personally, the administration experience really helped me in interviews further down the line.

Our clients come to the advice service seeking help and support as many people find day to day activities a huge struggle for a variety of different reasons. They may feel anxious, nervous, overwhelmed, worried, distressed, frightened or vulnerable. SLAS provides a supportive, empathetic environment that makes them feel respected, listened to and able to talk openly in a totally confidential setting. It is a real privilege to be able to offer time to be a part of this team over the last three years.

I am on the debt advice team. On our very first contact with a client, I feel we are helping. We stand side by side with them, to look at their finances. That alone can provide immediate relief to someone who, doesn’t know where to turn. We do not judge, or lecture, but help find solutions. It is an amazing privilege to be able to do that for someone. I have also found an unexpected pleasure in being part of the SLAS team. Everyone is so caring, knowledgable and dedicated. I feel very fortunate to have found SLAS.

Our service plays a valuable role in the local community of Brighton & Hove and with only a small team of staff, we rely on the commitment of our team of dedicated volunteers.

Volunteering provides excellent experience that can lead to future employment in the money advice sector, financial services and local government.

When we are recruiting for a paid position these will be posted here on our website as well as on our Facebook & Twitter pages.
