Trustee for St Luke’s Advice Service
- Brighton based charity
- Circa 10 committee meetings per year (usually remote), plus annual away day
- Unremunerated
- Looking for someone with governance/assurance experience
St Luke’s Advice Service (SLAS) is a small charity founded on Christian values, based in central Brighton. We help some of the most vulnerable people in Brighton and Hove by providing practical support and advice to help them overcome financial hardship and access benefits they desperately need. Last year our small team of paid staff and volunteers helped over 800 people.
What makes us special is the time and compassion we offer each person who approaches us for help. We help people become whole again and feel connected to their community so they can overcome their financial crises and/or benefits issues and get back on with their lives. We are highly regarded in the City and work in partnership with several other organisations.
We are a values-based organisation, and our trustees are a critical part of an organisation that is people-centred and forward-thinking. Our Board ensure the charity is fit for the future, well governed, and support the staff and volunteering team in their operational delivery.
We are now looking for a new trustee with governance accountabilities willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. Whilst you may not have previous board level or trustee experience, we are looking for someone who has experience of governance matters, preferably in the charity or public sector.
This trustee role will be of interest to those keen to contribute to the governance and risk management of the charity, ensuring that we continue to be efficient, effective and compliant with statutory and other requirements. A background in governance and assurance, or operational management and/or non-financial audit would be useful, and we are looking for a critical friend, prepared to make unpopular recommendations to the board when required. We will provide appropriate induction including ‘pairing’ with one of our existing trustees and access to external training and relevant resources.
